Acquisition takes US paperboard firm Lamitech into bakery board market
Located in Roosevelt, NY, Signature was previously part of General Die & Die Cutting Inc, and supplies patented, FDA-approved products for the bakery and cake tray markets.
Lamitech said expansion into bakery board is part of a strategic growth plan that began in 2014 when it committed to an annual AIB International (American Institute of Baking ) audit process that certifies its manufacturing process as food-safe.
Food safety audit
The New Jersey-based business said it had received a ‘Superior’ AIB audit rating for two consecutive years, which it claimed made it one of a “select” number of paperboard converters to achieve a third-party safety inspection/audit for direct food contact products.
The Signature board is designed to be moisture, oil and grease resistant, and was particularly popular with cake decorators as it allowed mistakes to be wiped clean with minimal waste, said Lamitech.
“The addition of the Signature Food Boards’ line of products allows us to expand our reach into the important bakery board market while leveraging our food quality paperboard expertise,” said Lamitech VP and general manager Adam Reiser, adding the business would be integrating equipment and administrative functions in the coming weeks.
Increased inventories
Lamitech said it had increased inventories at Signature to mitigate any short-term interruption in supply.
“Customers of Signature Food Boards will receive the same high quality service that they have come to expect,” added Reiser.
Founded in 1994 and headquartered in Cranbury, NJ, Lamitech also has facilities in Santa Cruz, CA, and Rockland, MA. In addition to the food industry, it supplies board for a range of uses including signage and display, mounting/finishing/die cutting, lampshades, wallpaper and packaging.
