UK independent confectionery manufacturer Tangerine Confectionery has recalled a number of batches of its Butterkist Sweet Microwave Popcorn due to the potential presence of rice weevil.

The firm said last week that three multipack batches and one single pack batch have been recalled due to the possible presence of the weevil Sitophilus oryzae.

Rice Weevils are 2mm to 3mm long and dark brown, according to Rentokil.

Tangerine Confectionery said the product was made on its behalf by a French supplier and that the problem has been identified and is limited to only these two Butterkist products.

A statement from the company said: "We would like to reassure customers that this does not represent any form of health risk."
