The new additions to the company's existing range of mixes were developed to hone in on the market for traditional European products - with an emphasis on German and Dutch bakery.
Steenburgs has developed a Lebkucken mix so bakers can produce the traditional German snack in an organic form. Also available are a Weihnachten mix for more complex flavoured stolen and lebkuchen as well as Dutch mixes Koekkruiden and Speculaaskruiden for speculaas biscuits popular in the Netherlands.
American consumers are included as well with a pumpkin pie mix and the French market is covered with a sweet quatre epices variety.
The mixes will give specialist, traditional bakers a helping hand in exploiting the trend for organic food which has sprung up over the last year and is set to grow even further as industry races to keep up with demand.
The move towards ethical food has been a significant development in the baking industry in particular with a growing number of consumers clamouring for information about where ingredients are sourced from and how responsibly they are produced.
According to market researchers, Mintel, breads and cereals in the organic sector showed a 19.1 per cent rise in the two years leading up to 2004, taking sales from £68m (€98m) to £81m (€117m).
Steenbergs also produces a range of individual spices that are certified Fairtrade as well as organic. These include nutmeg, cloves, cardamon, mace and vanilla.
And the company's Fairtrade line extends to confectionery with vanilla-based ingredients suitable for ice-cream makers and chocolatiers.
