Hillary Clinton will visit Capital City Fruit in Norwalk, Iowa, today (April 15) as part of her campaign trail to run for president in 2016.

The supply chain management company and distributor of fresh fruit and vegetables employs 149 people and distributes over 100 categories of fresh fruits and vegetables to grocery chain distribution centers and institutional food wholesalers. 

We are honored a presidential candidate has decided to tour our company and meet our employees and business owners​,” said Christian Comito, CEO, Capital City Fruit.

We are always open to educating political leaders of either party on the challenges and successes of operating a business and what they can do to improve things for our employees, our communities and our nation’s economic environment​.”

The company is no stranger to politicians and has welcomed Senator Charles Grassley, Iowa Lieutenant Governor Kim Reynolds and Congressman, Dave Young in the past. 

During the economic recession, Capital City Fruit made the decision to forge ahead with plans to expand its operations and built a warehouse and office space financed by the Small Business Administration and the State of Iowa and the City of Norwalk in October, 2012.

The third-generation family business started as a fruit market in Des Moines in 1949 by Joseph Comito. Current chairman of the board Joseph Comito, is the son of Joseph and assumed leadership of the company in 1975. 

The current owners of the company are brothers Christian Comito, Brendan Comito and Kieran Comito.  Christian is the CEO, Brendan is the COO and Kieran is director of purchasing.
