The two packaging powerhouses are joining to produce and sell flexible containers promising shelf presence and sustainability.

Dow Packaging and Speciality Plastics’s PacXpert technology converts flexible packaging film to large flexible containers. Ampac has been licensed to sell the packages in North America; the company reportedly will offer the packaging under the CubePak brand name.

Environmental edge

Heather Turner, new business development leader in North America for Dow Packaging and Specialty Plastics, told FoodProductionDaily the PacXpert/CubePak partnership will provide food, foodservice, and beverage industries with a lightweight, environmental container option.

The technology positions Ampac and Dow as solutions leaders in the packaging industry with the ability to offer customers sustainability benefits and convenience,” she said. “We look forward to working with Ampac as they become the first licensee of PacXpert Technology to bring this advancement to North America.”

Packaging flexibility

Millie Nuno, senior market manager for Ampac, said the PacXpert/CubePak technology will offer food and beverage customers flexibility, convenience, and sustainability.

The Ampac CubePak’s design and multi-functionality provides our customers with a solution for pourable products that will expand the flexible packaging market,” she said.

Container design

The packaging design involves flexible film, fitment closure, and integrated dual handles. The configuration reportedly facilitates ease in handling, pouring, reclosing, and storing.

The PacXpert/CubePak is shelf stable, and the squared-up configuration enables it to stand upright or lay on its side when filled with salad dressing, oil, beverages, or other products. Customers can choose transparent film for full product view through any or all sides, and the film can be printed on any of the surfaces.

The packaging reportedly offers various sustainability benefits. The container is said to reduce overall packaging weight, better product yield (and therefore less waste), reduced material consumption, and (because the empty containers can be folded flat) reduced transportation costs.
