Cambridge Engineered Solutions, a manufacturer of metal conveyor belts, has expanded its operations in Russia and the Middle East.

It has added representatives to five countries, and predicts increased demand from the food processing industry in these regions.

Tracy Tyler, president and CEO, Cambridge Engineered Solutions, told FoodProductionDaily.com Europe has always been a strong market, but the opportunity to expand is an ‘important step’ in the company’s international growth plan.

Russia: Increased demand for processed food

Globally, food processing is one of Cambridge’s top markets, so we look for opportunities in this sector,” Tyler said. “In working with food processing companies and equipment manufacturers, we have noticed a significant increase in projects within Russia.

This - coupled with Russia having one of the fastest growing economies relative to market size, a growing infrastructure for country-wide distribution, and an increased demand for processed food - has made it a very attractive market for Cambridge,” she added.

Cambridge has partnered with Polymer, who will be the company’s first representative in Russia. Polymer has offices in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Siberia, and nine sales managers across Russian regions.

Middle East: Emerging Sector

In the Middle East, SCI Trading will represent Cambridge in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar and Kuwait.

We have been working with SCI for a few years, and the relationship we have developed gives us confidence that we can be even more successful in the Middle East,” said Tyler. “SCI’s main focus will continue to be oil, chemical, and petroleum. But food processing is an emerging sector, and we firmly believe its network of contacts will allow us to experience growth in this area as well.”

Tyler said the company expects demands from Russia and the Middle East will be the same as elsewhere, so it will offer similar products and services. However, feedback on products, variations in manufacturing practices, and any differences in how food is produced could to lead to new products in the future, she added.

Cambridge now has 20 representatives: nine in Europe, Asia and Africa; and 11 in Latin America (Mexico, Central and South America and the Caribbean).

The U.S. is currently the strongest [area for Cambridge] in regards to food processing and Latin America, primarily Brazil and Mexico, are very strong too,” said Tyler. “We intend to grow in Europe and be a top three manufacturer there in the coming years.”

The company wants to solidify its operations in Latin America, and will launch some additional conveyor belts for food and beverage processing at MercoAgro, Brazil, September 9-12.

In Europe, the company will be at the World of Technology and Science (WOTS) conference, the Netherlands, September 30 – October 4.
