Natural baking mix manufacturer Simple Mills has revealed ambitions to more than double its distribution by the end of the year.

The Chicago-based business – which makes a range of almond flour-based mixes including pizza dough, cakes and muffins – currently sells in just under 1,800 retailers primarily through natural and organic channels including Whole Foods.

But the business is hoping to expand into conventional retailers this year and grow its distribution to 5,000 stores by the end of 2016, vice president of marketing Michelle Lorge told BakeryAndSnacks.

She added Simple Mills was now the number one brand in the natural organic baking mix category from a sales per point basis, according to SPINS data.

New products next month

Lorge also revealed the business would be launching a new product line at the Natural Products Expo West show in Anaheim next month.

Although she refused to give any details of the new products in advance, she said that – like all the brand’s other lines – they would be based on almond flour and follow its strict policy on ingredients.

“All our ingredients are natural, no artificial flavors, no preservatives, and we never add more than seven to eight ingredients in total,” she added.
