Is it possible for a food to be healthy and indulgent at the same time? FoodNavigator-USA asked exhibitors at the recent Natural Products Expo West in Anaheim, California.

Ramona Cappello is CEO and president of Corazonas Foods, which has a line of potato chips and snack foods infused with plant sterols intended to help lower cholesterol. She said that the company aims to transform previously unhealthy snacks into treats that can provide heart health benefits.

Meanwhile, Trisha Layton is marketing coordinator for ProBar, which has just introduced a new range of snack bars called Halo. The company says its new bars are a ‘sinfully healthy snack’ and Layton said consumers are sick of having to choose between health and indulgence; they want both.

consumer problem

The problem "between health and indulgence" is more psychological than food problem. It can be successfully solved by other means than reorganising production. Those who can't cope with their problem with food will pay more for this "healthy junk food" to settle their minds temporary and will swear this was a step in right direction.
