Weston Bakeries has started producing and distributing Dave’s Killer Bread in Canada after it received the licensing rights from Flowers Foods.

According to Andrea Hunt, VP of marketing at Weston Bakeries, Dave's Killer Bread is the bakery's first foray into the organic category.

“It stands out with its ‘killer’ taste and texture and addresses the desire of consumers who are looking for a healthy everyday grain bread,” she said.

Weston Bakeries has long been Canada’s producer and marketer of high-end baked goods, and manufactures a variety of brands, including Wonder, D’Italiano, Country Harvest, Casa Mendosa, All But Gluten and Gadoua.

Flowers Foods acquired Dave’s Killer Bread in a $275m deal in 2015, this site previously reported.

Popular in the US

Dave’s Killer Bread purportedly is the fastest growing organic bread in the US, Weston Bakeries said in a release.

It is rich in whole grains, fiber and protein, and does not contain corn syrup, artificial ingredients, artificial preservatives, fillers or additives.

Hunt told BakeryandSnacks the retail pricing for Dave’s Killer Bread will be set by Weston Bakeries’ retail partners, and she believes the brand will provide incremental growth in 2017 to the company’s portfolio.

Dave’s Killer Bread will be available in five varieties in grocery and convenience retailers across Canada.
