General Mills-owned Cascadian Farm says its organic pea-based protein bars plug consumer desire for alternative protein sources.
The new protein bar line comes in two flavors – peanut butter chocolate chip and honey roasted nut – and each bar contains 9 grams of protein. The bars were launched at the end of 2013 but have now been rolled out to mainstream supermarkets and natural food stores nationwide.
“We know consumers are searching for innovative products made with protein from legumes, vegetables and nuts,” said Scott Lee, marketing director for Cascadian Farm.
Cascadian Farm said pea protein has emerged as a leading alternative protein source, based on the 2012 study from the Hartman Group ‘Increased Interest in Protein’.
