Aaron Equipment Company-owned AEK Packaging Equipment will relocate to a standalone, state-of-the-art facility in Belvidere, Illinois, by January 1, 2017, BakeryandSancks learned at Pack Expo recently in Chicago.

Founded in 2009, AEK offers more than 60 types of used processing and packaging equipment for the food industry, such as can seamers and case packers. The company said more than 30% of its equipment handles bakery and snack products, including salty snacks, pastries, bread, crackers, pizza, granola and nutrition bars.

The new climate-controlled facility, located west of the Chicago area on Interstate 90, will benefit AEK customers by offering much larger inventory, along with a showroom and space to cycle-test all used packaging equipment it purchases, the company said in a release.

“Customers will continue to work with their same AEK sales associate,” AEK added, “and AEK’s relationship with its parent company will be unaffected by the relocation.”

25% inventory value increase

AEK said it has experienced substantial growth in the past two years, “nearly tripling its current footprint in Bensenville, Illinois, while at the same time enjoying an inventory value increase of 25% from 2015 to 2016.”

“As a result, there is literally no room for expansion in its current location. For this reason, AEK is relocating to a new facility,” the company said.

Commenting on the facility move, AEK president K.C. Christensen said, “AEK is a growing, stable company that has been a part of thousands of packaging applications globally for almost a decade.”

“We save our customers time and lower their risk of purchasing, leasing or renting packaging equipment. We know how important it is for our customers to have confidence that the used piece of packaging equipment acquired works upon arrival. And now we will have the space to better accommodate all customer needs,” he said.

Partnering with Hilco Industrial

To aid its relocation, AEK is also partnering with Hilco Industrial to host an online auction of more than 175 pieces of packaging equipment from November 10 to 17.

Equipment available for bid include shrink bundlers, blister packaging machines, palletizers, and vertical form-fill-seal machines.
