American Almond has opened its new facility that it moved from Brooklyn, New York, to Pennsauken, New Jersey, to expand its nut-based products portfolio.

The 58,140-square-foot plant employs 36 workers and has been completely refurbished, with added equipment and processes.

It produces almonds, macaroons, nut flours and kernel paste for the bakery, confectionery and frozen dessert sectors.

According to American Almond, ts products resonate current consumer demands for healthy and natural ingredients, clean label and high protein content.

Barry Callebaut procures American Almond

Chocolatier Barry Callebaut acquired American Almond two years ago, Patty Kopitas, Barry Callebaut's commercial manager told BakeryandSnacks.

She said Barry Callebaut has a strong footprint in New Jersey and has a R&D center in the region, while American Almond adds to the product portfolio.

“Acquiring American Almond fits well with the bakery category, while pairing chocolate with nuts is particularly popular,”  said Kopitas. “Almonds are becoming even more popular in the two sectors.”
