Endoline Machinery has seen a growth in demand for its 744 Fully Automatic Random Case Sealers, after receiving up to £1.5m in orders from international snack manufacturers, in particular, crisps, in the last 12 months.

The technology runs at a rate of up to 30 cases per minute – an increase in output of over 50% compared to its Endoline 734 series.

Simon Taylor, director of sales and marketing, Endoline, told FoodProductionDaily the speed comes from the inclusion of its servo drives and, at optimum level, claims it is the fastest in Europe.

Snacks industry

With this capability to handle a high volume of random case sizes the 744 can be fed via multiple lines – a definite advantage to any manufacturer with a high output of various sized case loads,” he said.

The snacks industry is dealing with increasing levels of output and the Endoline 744 offers an efficient alternative to purchasing several slower case sealers which will not only be less cost effective but take up valuable factory space.”

He added each Endoline Machine is made from stainless steel, depending on the bespoke nature of the application and this is becoming increasingly prevalent within the food industry where stringent hygiene regulations need to be adhered to.

Customers include Robert Wiseman Dairies and Tulip which supplies fresh pork, bacon and cooked meats to sausages and canned meats, to the food industry.

Prepared fruit bowls

Its latest order is with a supermarket fresh produce producer to make prepared fruit bowls.

Endoline has installed five stainless steel 100 series of Semi Automatic case erectors – increasing output for the producer to 10 tonnes of fruit per day.

Taylor refused to name who the company was but said it is one of the UK’s fresh produce manufacturers, which supplies bagged salads, prepared fruit and leafy salad bowls and trays.

The recent media attention to health issues associated with diet – and the success of the ‘5 a day’ campaign has generated a lot of demand for healthy food in convenient single portions. The format is suitable for prepared fruit that can be consumed on the go and in the workplace without mess,” he said.

The surge in demand reached a level that exceeded existing factory capacity so a new, purpose built facility was commissioned.

An analysis of the requirement pointed towards a fully automated machine to future proof the companies cost base. Endoline was selected as the supplier because of its experience designing bespoke packing machines and its ability to meet the stringent specifications and hygiene requirements.”

Shelf Ready Packs

As well as the 734 series, the company supplied a 248, fully automatic case erector which has been designed to handle Shelf Ready Packs (SRPs) at high speed and a Servo driven machine and gluing system to seal the bottom of each case as it is formed.

This overcomes a common problem associated with SRPs - tape interfering with the functionality of the cases at the retailer, but it also supports the higher running speeds made possible by the use of servo technology while reducing the cost of consumables by eliminating the need for tape,” added Taylor.
