Weis Markets recalls 30 bakery products in metal contamination alert
The Pennsylvania-based retailer has issued a recall for the products - including muffins, cookies, shortbread and bread – as the sugar topping on the products may be contaminated with metal fragments between 2mm and 9mm in size.
Weis said the voluntary action was being taken after a supplier – which it did not name - recalled the sugar ingredient. The retailer added it has received no reports of adverse reactions or injuries due to consumption of the recalled products.
Consumers who have purchased the items are advised not to consume them and return them to the store where originally purchased.
Packaging description
The muffins are packaged in a plastic medium salad container; the bread and cookies in a plastic hinged container; and the Irish soda bread in a plastic bag. The sell-by date can be found at the bottom of the scale label attached to the packaging.
The Weis recall comes two weeks after ConAgra Foods voluntarily recalled a range of PF Chang’s Home Menu Brand products due to the potential presence of metal fragments also said to be 2mm to 9mm in size. ConAgra issued the recall after an employee observed metal fragments while dispensing sugar from an un-named supplier.
