United Biscuits efforts in both its savory snacks division (KP Snacks) and sweet biscuit portfolio were covered in the FDF report.
“United Biscuits’ strategy is to improve the nutrition credentials of its products as we know that this is what our consumers want us to do. We have focused on saturated fat reduction and salt reduction as these are particularly important to our consumers,” a spokesperson for United Biscuits told BakeryandSnacks.com.
“United Biscuits sees the considerable investment in the improved nutritional credentials of our brands as part of a long-term investment strategy that offers consumers continuous improvements.”
The company started saturated fat reduction back in 2004 and has since achieved a 79% reduction for its Skips brand and 80% reduction for Hula Hoops.
United Biscuits also pledged to use sunflower oil in the cooking process of all its snacks brands by 2015, a target it has already hit across all of its fried snacks. Hula Hoops, Skips, McCoy’s, Space Raiders, Nik Naks, Wheat Crunchies, Frisps, Discos, Roysters, Brannigans, KP Chips and KP MiniChips are now cooked using 100% sunflower oil.
In its sweet biscuit portfolio it has reduced sodium to target across 96% of the portfolio (100 recipes out of 107).
